Preparing Your Quilt Top for Longarm Quilting
Do Not layer or baste your top and back together. Each layer is loaded individually on the longarm quilting machine so basting or pinning are not necessary.
Your backing fabric should be squared up and your back should measure at least 6 inches wider and longer than your top. For example, if your top measures 60 inches by 80 inches, your back should be at least 66 inches by 86 inches squared up.
Clip any loosed threads.
Stay stitch all pieced edges and/or bias edges on your top.
Label the quilt top and back top if necessary with a note paper marked “TOP” and secure the note with a safety pin to keep it attached to the fabric.
PRESS. PRESS. PRESS.
If your top arrives and it needs pressing before it can be loaded and quilted, I will charge an additional $20 per hour to press. Pressing during every stage of construction should make any additional pressing minimal if needed at all.
Save any embellishments such as buttons and bows until after its quilted and returned to you. If you send a top with buttons and bows attached, I will remove them and return them to you in a zip-loc bag so that you can reattach them after the quilting is done.
